O tricolor recebeu o Dourado no Maracanã, em partida válida pelo Campeonato Brasileiro. Com gols de Nino e Ganso o Fluminense confirmou o favoritismo e venceu a partida diante de sua torcida.
Além desse duelo, as equipes já se enfrentaram outras quatro ocasiões. Como saldo total dos cinco confrontos entre os clubes tem-se uma invencibilidade tricolor: quatro vitórias e um empate.
Apesar do resultado positivo, a equipe tricolor enfrentou mais dificuldades do que certamente esperava para a partida. Em alguns momentos da partida a equipe do Cuiabá chegou a ameaçar mais a equipe carioca. Entretanto, o Fluminense conseguiu ser mais eficaz e colocar a bola no gol adversário.
