O tricolor vinha de três jogos sem vitórias e sonhava com uma vaga para Libertadores, o Juventude estava beirando a zona de rebaixamento. E, precisando da vitória, o time da serra gaúcha começou o jogo com tudo. Logo no primeiro minuto, Enilton em posição irregular, abriu o placar para os locais. Parecia que o filme ia se repetir. Aos 38 minutos, o árbitro Cléver Assunção Gomçalves marcou um pênalti inexistente para o Juventude. Enilton foi para a bola e marcou o seu segundo gol no jogo e o segundo do Juventude na partida. O Fluminense foi para o vestiário com dois gols de desvantagem.
A esperança tricolor foi renovada com as substituições promovidas por Abel Braga. Ele sacou Rodrigo Tiui para colocar Adriano Magrão e tirou Arouca para a entrada de Lenny. Minutos depois, Lenny, que havia entrado no lugar de Arouca, empatava o duelo. Tudo parecia perdido para o torcedor do Fluminense, mas Perkovic no apagar das luzes deu números finais à partida. Juventude 3 x 4 Fluminense.
Com a vitória, o Fluminense chegou aos 51 pontos encostando na parte de cima da tabela que brigava por uma vaga na principal competição nacional. Enquanto o Juventude brigava para não cair.
