Depois de mais um título nacional, o Fluminense embarcou em mais uma aventura pelas Américas, em 2011. No seu primeiro jogo: mais um empate. Dessa vez diante ao Argentino Juniors, no estádio Nilton Santos e o placar foi de 2 a 2. Rafael Moura marcou ambos os gols.
Em 2012, o Flu pela primeira vez disputava por duas vezes consecutivas a competição. Em sua estreia, os comandados de Abel Braga venceram o Arsenal de Sarandí por 1×0, no Nilton Santos com Fred colocando a bola no fundo das redes.
Novamente, o time verde branco e grená vencia o Campeonato Brasileiro e chegava na Libertadores com o status de melhor time do Brasil. Em 2013, o Flu venceu o Caracas por 1×0, na Venezuela, no primeiro jogo do tricolor naquela edição. O gol da vitória foi marcado por Fred.
