Nos últimos anos, o Flu não vem se saindo muito bem na 1ª rodada do Brasileirão. A estreia mais recente com o “pé direito” foi em 2017, contra o Santos. No Maracanã, os comandantes de Abel Braga ganharam por 3 x 2 do Santos. Henrique Dourado marcou duas vezes e Sornoza garantiu os primeiros três pontos cariocas daquela edição.
A partir disso, no ano seguinte, o clube verde, branco e grená foi superado por 2 x 1 pelo Corinthians, fora de casa.

Em 2019, o time de Fernando Diniz perdeu em casa para o Goiás, pelo placar mínimo.
Posteriormente, o Flu sofreu revés por 1 x 0 para o Grêmio, em Porto Alegre, já em 2020.
Por outro lado, em 2021 e 2022, o Fluminense estreou com um ponto, contra São Paulo e Santos, respectivamente. Diante do tricolor paulista, o embate terminou em 0 x 0 no Morumbi.
