Na quinta posição com 28 pontos, o Flu está a apenas um atrás de Corinthians e Inter, respectivamente, terceiro e quarto colocados. Também está a três do vice-líder Atlético-MG e a cinco do líder Palmeiras.
Para a partida contra os goianos, o técnico Fernando Diniz vai contar com o retorno de Nino. O zagueiro — que atraiu o interesse do Fenerbahçe, time de Jorge Jesus na Túrquia — acabou cortado do jogo contra o São Paulo por causa de uma gastrointerite e deve voltar na vaga de Luccas Claro.

Além disso, o treinador vai contar pela primeira vez com Michel Araujo e Marrony.
