E uma delas chamou a atenção da nossa reportagem: A de um atleta de Portugal, que ontem fez a sua estreia no mundial e já atuou nas escolinhas de futebol do Fluminense.
Essa história é do luso-brasileiro Matheus Nunes. Ontem, após a vitória do seu país por 2×0 sobre o Uruguai, que confirmou a classificação antecipada dos portugueses para as oitavas de final, o atleta postou a seguinte imagem nas suas redes sociais.
Na foto, vemos Matheus com a camisa do Tricolor em treinamento. O projeto das escolinhas oficiais do Fluminense, antes “Educação Esportiva”, hoje tem o nome de “Guerreirinhos”.

Nascido em Campo Grande, bairro da zona oeste do Rio de Janeiro, ele se mudou com a mãe Catia e o padrastro aos 13 anos para Ericeira, cidade turística ao lado de Lisboa. Lá, estudou e começou os primeiros passos no futebol no Grupo Desportivo União Ericeirense, que disputa divisões inferiores. Com destaque, foi para o Estoril-Praia até chegar ao Sporting de Lisboa. Ao mesmo tempo em que jogava na base, decidiu ajudar o padrinho na padaria Pão da Vila, em Ericeira. Ficava no balcão e fazia atendimento.
Depois de anos na base do clube lisboeta, o jogador subiu ao time principal dos Leões, onde se tornou destaque, referência e capitão. Em agosto de 2021, foi convocado por Tite para defender a seleção brasileira. Entretanto, dias depois, a CBF comunicou que o jogador não se juntaria à delegação. Ele recebeu o convite da Federação Portuguesa de Futebol, em ligação com o treinador Fernando Santos, que garantiu que o jogador estava nos planos da seleção portuguesa. E Nunes decidiu defender Portugal.
